Three Olive Progress

Modified the stemware on the martini!  Mostly finished with a few final welds to make and then I will figure out what I want to do for the final finish.  I am thinking rust of course but I might get handy and lay down some paint.

Farmer 2

The latest farmer sculpture.  A mix of truck springs, tractor seat, post hole digger parts and tiller blades.  Will get a rubdown in butchers wax to give it a uniform patina suitable for indoors.

Phil’s Frame Underway!

This is my second frame underway.  It will be similar to the first one except the size.  This one is custom for a friend of mine and is the first custom measured frame for me.

Drawing is complete… Lugs are all cleaned (inside) and tube notching has begun.

Antique Bicycle Cable Machine

Here is a great device that I am still looking for info on.   What I do know is that it is used in the creation of brake and shift cables.  It has an attached cable cutter (Top left of photo).  Bulk spools of cable (without ends) would be used to create any cable length you need.

Once the cable is cut the end would be “crunched” into the dies shown here.  This process would create a very nice mushroom type end to the cable.

Cable End after “crunch”

cableend

This is where it gets tricky.  As of yet I don’t have any info on how the ends (primarily made of lead) would be attached to the cables at this point.  One thought would be that the cable with the mushroom end would be placed in a mold similar to a fishing sinker mold and the lead would be poured around it.

Other thought is that stock lead cable end were available to crimp onto the mushroom tip.

Still digging around for more info….

ALAN Frame Clean Up!

I have been spending some time cleaning up the ALAN frame (earlier post).  It is cleaning up real well and should be complete sometime in the next week.

alancleanMore pics… (sorry about the poor photography) but it does look much better than the pic make it look.

Soap Box Derby – circa 1960s

I have had this piece for a while but finally got around to taking some pics of it.  It is a great early soapbox derby racer.  Shows some age but is a great looking peace.  Almost folk art in look.  “Rival Unchained” !!! Great name.

Still has last race banner attached.  Class A race!

Cockpit is pretty cool too.  Has a 60s auto type upholstery look.  Very cool steering wheel as well.
